Farley Johansson, a seasoned contact improvisation dancer and teacher with almost 20 years of experience studying at EDAM, will be leading this week’s warm-up focused on exploring movement patterns and partnering work. Following the warm-up, we’ll dive into a playful jam, allowing dancers to apply new skills in a supportive and dynamic environment.
Monday Night Jams is designed to be a space welcoming both seasoned dancers and newcomers to explore and deepen their practice of Contact Improvisation.
$10 to $20 Entry, sliding scale – cash or e-transfer – please reach out to myself (Michael McAmmond) if finances are a barrier for attending.
If you have any questions please feel free to reach out
Please enter the space in silence – if you need to speak ask yourself, is what I’m discussing deepening my dance or distracting from my dance?
The context for this space is for it to be safe, consensual, open, fun, playful space, grounded in deep listening and awareness. Where the invitation and intention is to be generous and non-extractive. Questions to ask yourself before coming into the space; What am I bringing to this space? How can I be more supportive to myself and others? Am I being trauma informed in my interactions?
There is zero tolerance for predatory behaviour, non-consensual touch, sexual advances, or any other ambiguous intimate physical touch that intentionally blurs boundaries. This also isn’t a space to pick up dates or bring a date to explore sensuality. If anything is witnessed or experienced at a jam that feels inappropriate or ambiguous please come speak with myself or another facilitator and know that your concerns will be held in confidence and will be addressed appropriately. You will always be met with compassion, understanding and open hearts.
